Records tumble with soaring temperatures

Soaring temperatures has led to record attendances for March across Carmarthenshire parks.

The county’s crown tourism jewel Pembrey Country Park had Bank Holiday figures returned last weekend-a record for March.

Last weekend March 24th-25 there were 1,693 vehicles entering the park compared with 900 on the same weekend last year.

It is estimated with cyclists and walkers there were upwards of 7,000 in the park and on Cefn Sidan beach.

Rangers reporting camping sites and barbecue areas busy and thousands pouring into the beach to soak up the sun and even venture into the sea.

This weekend at the park the model railway train club have their spring rally which usual attracts large crowds.

Millennium Coastal park manager Rory Dickinson said the coastal path had hundreds of cyclists and the Discovery Centre was busy with the ice cream kiosk doing and unusually roaring trade for a March weekend.

County rangers reported they were busy at Gelli Aur and Mynyddmawr Parks too with unusually high numbers of families picnicking out for the time of year.

County parks manager Neil Perry said:” After so many promising false starts fine weather years in recent years we hope this one continues. It would be wonderful to see this weather continue through Easter.”

There are Easter egg hunts at Pembrey Country Park on April 8th at 2pm.
