Record drug seizures take drugs off Llanelli’s streets

Significant drug seizures in Llanelli have seen more Class A drugs than ever before taken off the streets, making it harder for suppliers and their customers.

Over the passed 12 months, Dyfed Powys Police’s Carmarthenshire priority policing team’s detectives have been relentlessly targeting known drug suppliers. Their efforts have resulted in substantial drug seizures and many offenders brought to justice for their actions.

“The figures we’ve seen over the past twelve months are testament to the hard work and dedication of the officers working in the priority policing team”, said Detective Inspector Gary Phillips.

“Since April last year to March 2012 we’ve seized over two thirds of a kilo of heroin. We’ve also seized a quarter kilo of amphetamine and over an ounce of cocaine.

“Altogether the drugs seized amount to a street value of over £100,000.

“Eighteen offenders have so far been charged, convicted and imprisoned, receiving sentences totalling 37.5 years. We still have a large number of drug suppliers going through the criminal justice process and they too will be sentenced accordingly”.

“These results are sending a clear signal to drug suppliers that they will be targeted and they will likely go to prison for their actions. We are being told that it is harder than ever to get drugs in Llanelli, but we don’t intend on becoming complacent. Reducing the harm caused by drugs in our communities and disrupting the drugs trade as a whole remains one of our key priorities and we will continue to pursue all intelligence we get regarding the supply of controlled drugs”

Among the results achieved by the PPT are the following:

  • Matthew Rees charged heroin supply and sentenced to 5 yrs
