Free Training Opportunity

Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council are offering a free one day training course in Stage Lighting Operation. To be eligible you must live in the Burry Port or Pembrey area, be reasonably fit and be willing to volunteer your time free of charge to the many community groups that use the Memorial Hall for theatre productions.

Places are limited, for those that meet the criteria please contact the Town Clerk on 01554 834346 by Thursday 3 May at the latest.

Spring Fayre Coffee Evening

The Ladies Fundraising Section of Burry Port Male Choir are holding their usual Spring Coffee Evening on Friday 4 May at 6.30pm in the Memorial Hall, Parc y Minos Street, Burry Port. There will be stalls selling homemade cakes, garden items, toiletries, toys, jewellery and accessories, books and bric-a-brac. There will be various raffles to be drawn on the night.

Tickets at £1 each include tea, coffee or squash and biscuits plus the added attraction of informal entertainment by the Burry Port Male Choir. All funds go towards the running of the choir which is a registered charity.

Legion Entertainment

The Royal British Legion Club presents Saturday 5 May a show featuring Amanda Kelly a female vocalist. Doors open 7pm.Bingo last books 7.50pm.Admission members £2 and guests £3.Guests must be signed in.

Pembrey Brownies

We currently have spaces for 7-10 year old girls. We are also currently taking names onto our waiting list for girls who are not yet 7.For more details please contact Brandie on 07873417992.

Historical Society

The next meeting of the Pembrey and Burry Port Society will be at 7pm on Tuesday 15 May (NOT 8 May), when the guest speaker will be Rev Eldon Phillips with a talk entitled A Return tio India.The meeting will take place in the Memorial Hall where all will be made very welcome and refreshments provided.

Circuit Box

This takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm in the Burry Port Methodist church Hall starting on 8 May. Enquiries to 07534940483.

Town Band Junior Club

The band are looking for 5 young learners who perhaps don’t get the opportunity to learn in the local primary schools and would like to join our enthusiastic Junior Band Club. The club will run from 6:30pm on Tuesdays at our bandroom in Morlan Terrace, Burry Port.

Each weekly session will be split into 3 sections, the first 20 minutes will be tuition followed by a break where the use of the band’s snooker table will allow the group to socialise and make friends with other brass players from the area, then the final 20 minutes will be a full Junior Band ensemble lead by one of the tutors or a guest conductor. Parcels for our Troops

There is a coffee eve with tombola stall on Monday 7 May at the Royal British Legion Headquarters. Doors open at 7pm.Last bingo books at 8.20pm.Please come and support us with our funds for troops in Afghanistan.1000 have already been distributed. Help us show our support by sending a few simple items.

Cefn Sidan U3a

The Burry Port and Pembrey U3A group meetings in May include Tuesday 8 the craft/art group at 2.15pm. Wednesday 9 the business, theatre and excursion group coffee morning is at 11am with a book swap. Tuesday 15 at 10.30am is the local history group trip to Neath Abbey and the short walk group which could be along the canal into Neath contact Jill on 834061.

The main monthly speakers meeting on Monday 21 is at 2.15pm on subject You ain’t Heard Nothing Yet. Tuesday 22 the long walk group is cancelled. Monday 28 the drama group meet at 2.15pm.Tuesday 29 is the committee meeting at 10.30am and another film group at 2.15pm the film is not yet chosen. There is Welsh every Friday afternoon at 2.15pm.Meetings usually take place in the Memorial Hall annexe, except the walking groups. New members will be most welcome. 50th Anniversary Concert

Burry Port Male Choir are now busy rehearsing for their 50th Anniversary Concert on Saturday 23 June at the Selwyn Samuel Centre, Llanelli at 7pm. Guest artistes are Shân Cothi and John Owen Jones. Burry Port Male choir will be supported by Haverfordwest and Flint Male Choirs, Cor Meibion Cwmann and Cor Meibion Mynydd Mawr.

Tickets from 01554 810442,834371 or any Burry Port choristers. Ticket which are selling fast are priced:£20 or £15 reserved,£12.50 unreserved. This is a special year for the choir as they celebrate their 50th anniversary and have various celebrations and performances planned.

Burry Port Opera

Rehearsals start on Wednesday April 18 at 7pm in the Memorial Hall.This year’s opera is Norma by Bellini.As usual we would welcome new members male or female.Anyone interested contact Christine Rudge on 01554 835659,or just turn up on the evening.

Car Boot Sale

Pembrey and Burry Port Community Forum are starting car boot sales on Saturday 5 May on the Carnival field opposite the new car park starting at 1pm.Cost to sell £5 per car £8 per van. Enquiries to 01554 833188.

Carnival

Volunteers are needed for Burry Port Carnival Day on the 7 July. The procession has the theme Royalty Through The ages and will be leaving Dyfatty at 1pm.Please contact 01554 830975.

Welsh for the Family

The Welsh for Adults Centre is offering a 10 week Welsh course suitable for beginners which will teach you vocabulary and sentence patterns that you can use with your children. The course is for 10 sessions 6.30–8.30pm and starts in May in Ysgol Dewi Sant, Llanelli. The registration session will be held on Wednesday 25 April at 6.30pm at the school.
