Coastal Path

CARMARTHENSHIRE’S section of the All Wales Coastal Path is attracting UK-wide attention.

The Times newspaper has featured the Carmarthenshire stretch, along with the Llanelli Festival of Walks, in a feature on the national launch of the path on May 5.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s tourism team has launched new pages on www.discovercarmarthenshire.com highlighting the Carmarthenshire stretch of the All Wales Coastal Path.

The website has a map of the entire 80-mile Carmarthenshire route and individual detailed maps for the various stages – Bynea to Discovery Centre, Llanelli; Discovery Centre, Llanelli, to Kidwelly; Kidwelly to Ferryside; Ferryside to Carmarthen; Carmarthen to Llansteffan; Llansteffan to St Clears; St Clears to Laugharne; and Laugharne to Amroth.

The All Wales Coast Path skirts the whole coastline of Wales, providing access to varied landscapes, historical towns, golden beaches and many other highlights along the coast. It will also be a sustainable ‘economic driver’, bringing demand for accommodation and spending in local shops.

Marketing and tourism development officer Sarah Owen said: “The Wales Coast Path will draw in tourists to Carmarthenshire and allow walkers to link up from Swansea and further West through Carmarthenshire to Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and the rest of Wales.

“The Coast Path is a marvellous facility for both tourists holidaying in Carmarthenshire and for local people wanting to take exercise and enjoy our local landscape.”

The Wales Coast Path project is funded by the Welsh Government and the Wales European Funding Office (WEFO) and administered by the Countryside Council for Wales.
