Motorcyclists given fixed penalty notices for speeding on the weekend
21 motorcyclists given fixed penalty notices by roads policing officers in North Carmarthenshire and Powys for speeding on the weekend
Roads Policing officers carried out a special operation on Sunday the 6th of May targeting anti-social riders and drivers using roads in North Carmarthenshire and Powys.
A total of 21 motorcyclists were given fixed penalty notices for speeding, and five were reported for summons for speeding. This means the offences are too serious to warrant a fixed penalty and need to be dealt with in a court.
“This operation was all about tackling the anti-social use of vehicles on our roads,” said Sue Storch of Dyfed Powys Police’s road safety team. “The highest speed seen was 109 mph, which is excessive and dangerous not only for the motorcyclist but also for other road users.
“But hopefully the message is filtering through. Two riders stopped by officers did opt to attend a speed awareness course which are aimed at educating riders and drivers of the dangers of driving too fast.”
The operation also saw 21 fixed penalty notices issued for misrepresented number plates, one fixed penalty for a helmet visor not complying with regulations and two for motorcycles who crossed over solid white lines.
For other vehicles , 16 fixed penalty notices were given to speeding drivers, with one reported for summons after being caught doing 109mph along the A40 near Llandeilo. Seven drivers accepted speed awareness courses, three were given fixed penalties for using their mobile phones while driving and one driver was reported for having no insurance.
The operation also saw two people arrested for possession of controlled drugs and one cannabis warning issued.
