Thought for the week from the Rev David Jones (we 13th May 2012)

Well laid plans for a sunny bank holiday may well have been disrupted if the weather forecasts of rain all day prove correct.

However, as I write it’s not that bad, there’s been some rain but now approaching 10am the sun is beginning to break through. It may well be that the forecasters were wrong and I will have to get into the garden!

If the rain does return the inevitable bank holiday re- run of the ‘Sound of Music’ may be another option!

That’s what makes these occasional ‘bank’ holidays so special. A break from routine, with an easy attitude as to what to do – surely that’s the magic of the day.

There is, of course, a Biblical truth, often overlooked about taking time to rest and to be refreshed.

The Bible tells us that God ordained a day apart for all people, and we ignore this at our peril. We often hear of the negative effects of stress, and terms like ‘burn out’ and ‘Workaholic’. Life must be a balance and that can only be achieved by ensuring that we do not reject the God given gift of rest and renewal.

We need to take time to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and to celebrate the gifts of family love and friendship. If then, a wet and windy Bank Holiday encourages us to do that, sitting around with loved ones watching Maria climb that mountain yet again is more than welcome!
