Woman fined for throwing cigarette end from car

A WOMAN has been fined £75 after throwing a cigarette end from her car at Parc Trostre in Llanelli.

The car was parked on the entrance road to McDonald’s and the woman was seen by council environmental enforcement officers who were on patrol in the area.

Failure to pay the fixed penalty notice could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a maximum fine of £2,500.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones is reminding people that throwing litter – including cigarette ends – is against the law.

He said: “Our enforcement officers regularly patrol the county and anyone caught throwing litter will be fined. Cigarette ends in particular are very difficult to clean up as they fall into grates and cracks in the pavement.”

Research shows that 83% of litter found on the county’s streets is smoking-related.

Cllr Jones added: “I hope people take notice of this latest fine and think about what they are doing to the environment.”
