E-Books Encourage Reading

E-BOOKS are proving popular in libraries across Carmarthenshire.

All libraries offer e-books for free with around 5,000 titles available to download from fiction to biographies and children’s books.

With Euro 2012 happening, soccer fans can enjoy plenty of football themed titles for all ages from children’s books such as Captain Fantastic by Tom Palmer to Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby.

Learn a new skill through the ‘for Dummies’ books. The full range is available to download free – titles include Vegan Cooking, Understanding Your Dog and even Flirting for Dummies.

Education and Children’s Services Executive Board Member Cllr Keith Davies said: “E-books are becoming increasingly popular and our libraries offer an extensive range of titles that members can download free. All you have to do is log into the e-books website and download the books onto an e-book reader, computer or iPad.

“We recognise that with new technology many people prefer using e-books to traditional hard copies, and the library service has moved with the times to accommodate this.”

To use the service you must be a member of Carmarthenshire libraries, which is free to join.

E-books can be reserved online, the service is available 24/7 and there is no need to remember to return the book because the digital book automatically deletes itself after three weeks.
