New Tesco Store planned for Burry Port
The details for a new Tesco store in Burry Port have been agreed by Carmarthenshire planners.
The county council’s planning committee approved a reserved matters application for a new store on Llanelli Waterside Joint Venture land known as the Fairground Field. It lies behind the Neptune Hotel and Burry Port Harbour.
The joint Venture is a partnership between the County Council and Welsh Assembly to help best promote the regeneration of Llanelli Waterside which extends through to Burry Port.
An officers’ report said that the proposed store was in the defined town centre of Burry Port, and research had shown that 96 per cent of the store’s convenience shopping would be clawed back from stores outside Burry Port.
Local member Cllr Pat Jones said: “It is convenient for the town centre of Burry Port. This development has the potential for shoppers to combine a visit to the store with visits to the town. There is overwhelming public support for this.”
