Major flood works continue at Pwll, Llanelli
Environment Agency Wales has recently started work to construct a 90 metre long flood wall to protect people in Pwll, Llanelli, from flooding.
Once complete, the wall will protect some 30 properties in Stepney Road and Bassetts Terrace from flooding from the River Dulais.
The work is part of a wider £1.6m flood scheme for the area which overall will provide flood protection to almost 160 properties.
Specialist machinery has been brought in for the construction work which may cause some disruption to local people. The Agency will seek to minimise inconvenience whilst these important works take place.
Mark Davies, Environment Agency Wales said: “I’d like to thank local people for their support over the last few months as we’ve been carrying out works in the area.
“This is an important development for Pwll, and I hope it will give reassurance to local people who live with the threat of flooding in the area.â€
Work on the new flood scheme in Pwll began in February this year.
In addition to the new flood wall, the scheme will also include:Â
- a flood overflow channel to carry floodwater to the Sandy Water Park Lake;
- a new foot bridge over the flood overflow channel to connect Beach Road and the Millennium Coastal Park; andÂ
- improved habitat for migratory fish and eels.

It is due for completion this winter and has been funded by the Welsh Government.
