Reds draw with the Swans

The Swans continued their pre-season programme with a hard-fought draw against Llanelli at Stebonheath Park.

Rory Donnelly capitalised on a poor back-pass from Reds defender Martyn Giles to open the scoring for the visitors, but the home side hit back when Rory Jenkins equalised.

The starting line-up featured four players that were part of the club’s pre-season tour of America, as they all looked to stake a claim in Michael Laudrup’s plans ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

The visitors created the better chances of an evenly-contested opening period and could have gone ahead after just four minutes as Gwion Edwards saw his effort drift a fraction wide of the left-hand post.

The winger was heavily involved throughout and shortly after he saw a header comfortably saved by Morris, before the 19-year-old skewed a volley wide of goal after James Loveridge’s effort was parried by the keeper.

At the other end, David Cornell had to be at his best to keep out Luke Bowen’s header before both Stephen Dobbie and Andrea Orlandi spurned good chances to open the scoring.

After a flurry of substitutions at the interval, the Swans took the lead as Donnelly tucked the ball into an empty net following a poor back-pass.

However, the Welsh Premier League side hit back with just over ten minutes to go as trialist Rory Jenkins headed home from Ryan Batley’s left-wing cross.

The Swans nearly grabbed a late winner as Donnelly headed wide from Curtis Obeng’s cross and Loveridge flicked the ball wide from six yards.
