Tidy Wales Week – Big Beach Clean 2012
As part of this year’s national Tidy Wales Week (Sept 17th – 22nd), Keep Wales Tidy (KWT)will be holding a large cleanup event on Cefn Sidan beach on Friday 21st September.
This event has been held in previous years and it has been very successful, In 2010 more than 120 volunteers joined in during the course of the day.
Dan Snaith, KWT’s Carmarthenshire Project Officer said:
“It would be great if we could get even more this year, and I hope that you are able to make it.”
“Anyone from any walk of life is welcome; schools, community groups, individual local people, businesses, public sector agencies etc who would like to make a difference. However, we do ask that anyone under 16 be accompanied by an adult. For groups of younger people, we would ask that a ratio of 1 adult per 15 under 16s is adhered to. This is to ensure health and safety guidelines are met.”
“We hope to begin the cleanup at around 10.30am, so anyone who wishes to come for the start should congregate in the car park on the left just before the entrance to Pembrey Country Park at 10am.”
“Keep Wales Tidy and Tidy Towns staff will meet you there and ou are welcome to come along at any time during the day and are welcome to stay for as long as you like.”
“Anyone who wishes to come along after 10.30am should proceed to enter the country park and notify the staff on the gate you are there for the beach clean. You will then be able to enter the park without charge. Please then make your way to the beach car parks and come and find us on the beach.”
KWT are unable to provide any refreshments, so you should bring your own drinks and lunch (if staying for the duration). There are cafes and kiosks in the country park, but some of these are seasonal and may not be open.
Litter picking equipment will be provided (pickers, hoops, bags, gloves) and KWT will have the ability to remove collected rubbish from the beach without volunteers having to carry it back to the car parks. There will be two 4×4 vehicles on the beach with first aid on board. You will be covered under Keep Wales Tidy’s liability insurance on the day.
Please dress suitably for the weather conditions on the day, and sturdy footwear should also be worn.
We will aim to finish the cleanup by 3pm. People need to inform Dan beforehand if they are coming and how many are in your party. his is just so that KWT can get an idea of how much equipment to bring along.
