Plaid Cymru Condemns Hywel Dda’s ‘Your Health – Your Future as one of the worst documents seen in over forty years!

Plaid Cymru – The Party of Wales released a statement earlier today with regards to Llanelli’s Prince Phillip Hospital future and Hywel Dda’s formal consultantion document ‘Your Health – Your Future.’

‘Your Health – Your Future’ is Woefully Inadequate. The fight for the retention of our health services at Prince Philip Hospital continues following the release of the Hywel Dda Health Board’s formal consultation document ‘Your Health – Your Future’. The document is extremely brief and lacking in detail.

Rhydwyn Ifan, Plaid’s constituency secretary said:

“It’s one of the worst consultation documents I’ve seen in over forty years. I’ve consistently seen consultation documents that were vastly superior to this. It’s more akin to a holiday brochure, but this is supposedly dealing with our health. Readers are then invited to visit the web for more information regarding different areas of health care, and everyone can afford to print off a thousand pages of course! If only we all earned as much as the chief executive!”

Plaid Town Cllr. Ruth Price said:

“Further, and more worryingly, this report confirms the decision of the Welsh Government and the Hywel Dda Health Board to downgrade our A+E department to a nurse-led local accident unit. This of course is insufficient and wholly inadequate for Llanelli’s needs. Llanelli is a town that is facing increased property development and still has a strong industrial base. In the future the demand for our emergency services is likely to be higher than ever”

Sean Rees Plaid Llanelli Communications Officer added:

“Over 33,000 people have spoken loud and clear through two petitions, that of PLAID and SOSPPAN, with the support of the Llanelli Star, to oppose anticipated proposals such as these.”

“What Llanelli needs is a fully fledged A+E unit led by a consultant. These changes are simply being implemented as a drastic cost cutting exercise. Our town and its communities will be left severely disadvantaged if these changes go ahead”.
