Kitchen Fire Safety

​Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people of the importance of having working smoke alarms inside their homes following two recent kitchen fires.

Fire crews from Llanelli attended a cooker fire at just after 3pm on 21st August. This had been extinguished by the time the Fire Service attended, but the occupier did suffer from smoke inhalation. Crews from Pembroke dock attended a second incident at 7:30pm, which was again extinguished prior to the Fire Services arrival. The occupier required oxygen therapy from the Ambulance Service.

Station Manager, Mick Higgins said, “When it comes to a fire in your home, smoke alarms are essential pieces of equipment which beyond doubt save lives”.

He added, “They alert people to a fire in its early stages, allowing for those extra crucial minutes to evacuate the property and raise the alarm to the Fire Service.

“It is vitally important that you have a working smoke alarm in your home. To assist in this, you can request a free home fire safety assessment from the fire service”.
