Bynea Bomb detonated

Reports have just reached us from residents that the unexploded munition from WW2 has been destroyed.

Full story here. It was destroyed by Bomb Disposal in a controlled explosion.

It was moved to a safer area for disarming but one unconfirmed report said that this was not possible. A 1.2 km exclusion zone had also been set up around the munition.

However, a lot of Bynea residents appear to have all the excitment with some writing on our Facebook ‘What bomb?’.

Chief Inspector Richard Lewis of Dyfed Powys Police said:

“The munition was initially moved a safe distance away from any nearby risks and assessed by experts from the Royal Air Force.”

“There was no need to carry out any evacuation of the immediate area, but road closures were put in place as a safety precaution.

“All the agencies involved would like to thank local residents and businesses for the cooperation during this operation.”

Grant Wood, Hutsman health and safety manager is reported to have said:

“During a routine maintenance excavation a war-time bomb was discovered.”

“The plant was shut down immediately and the bomb was moved to a safe location on site.”

“It was a surprise to discover the bomb and we informed the police immediately after. There has been no risk to the public at any time.”
