New Theatre on schedule for first performance

by Jonathan Williams

With Theatre Elli having held its final performance, all the town’s theatre goers are anticipating the opening of the new one.

Y Ffwrnes, the new 500 seat Theatre is due to open in December and we asked Nicholas Stevenson Programme and Promotions Officer for Carmarthenshire Theatres for an update:

When is the date of the first performance?

28th December 2012

Are you planning an opening a ceremony etc?

Yes. It is going to be a variety show, all will be revealed soon.

What artists are you planning to bring there, the same as the Lyric?

Yes, the artists that we want to attract to the new theatre will be the same as the ones at the Lyric, and more!

Anyone you’re especially planning to bring to Llanelli?

Not at the moment.

Are you going to be attracting more professional performances to the new Theatre rather than amateur?

We have fantastic amateur groups in Llanelli, most of them have all ready booked in, but we also want to balance the programme with professional product to give the local community a good balance.

How does someone book for a show?

We are in the middle of updating our website, this will be done in the next couple of months. Until then, we have moved our Box Office to The Showcase (the old Burtons shop) in the middle of town, this is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 6pm, telephone 0845 2263510.

How well are the bookings going?

Very well, we have some fantastic shows all ready booked in such as Horrible Histories, Rhydian Roberts, Max Boyce and Lloyd Langford.

Most of these shows are now on sale.

What are the hire charges for groups?

We are still finalising the charges.

If groups contact you, they will get help/advice etc on costs?

Of course, we are here to help, obviously we have some costs but they are not set in stone.

We will be happy to talk with any company and help them with their requirements.

Is everything on schedule?

Yes it is, we will be moving in in November.

Are you excited about the opening of the new Theatre? If so, please let us know by emailing jonathan@llanellitown.com.
