STATEMENT by PLAID CYMRU – THE PARTY OF WALES : ‘YOUR HEALTH, YOUR FUTURE’ CONSULTATION IS A SHAM…

Plaid Cymru believes this consultation conducted by the Hywel Dda Health Board on the future of Health care provision in Llanelli is a sham.

This was evidenced by the nature of the meeting in Parc Y Scarlets on Tuesday 4th September.

Gwyn Hopkins, Plaid County Councillor for Llangennech said:

“Lesley Griffiths as the minister responsible for Health care provision in Wales should have been present at the meeting. This would have helped the people of Llanelli feel that their concerns are being taken seriously. Instead we had representatives from a seemingly incompetent Health Board focusing on services in Carmarthen while ignoring and not listening to the people of our Town.”

Sean Rees, Plaid Llanelli Communications Officer added:

“Keith Davies AM initially stated he had looked at the consultation document ‘Your Health, Your Future’ in full.

Later on when questioned from the floor he said we need to look at the nurse-led ‘Option B’ more closely. Can we take this man seriously?

Let’s be clear, we must reject and kick into touch Option B of the consultation document.

The people of Llanelli must have a fully-fledged A+E unit that is consultant led”.

Early in February, Plaid presented a petition with 9,000 signatures to the Welsh Labour Government. Later in May, SOSPPAN presented a petition with 24,000 signatures.

“Clearly the Welsh Labour Government and their henchmen, The Hywel Dda Health Board, are not listening to the people of Llanelli” added Plaid Cymru.
