Thought for the week from the Rev David Jones (we 23rd September 2012)
My ‘sat nav’ has become invaluable.
The firm yet friendly voice makes me aware in good time of those turnings ahead or that right exit off the roundabout – what an invention this is! I must admit that I was rather cynical at first, but by now it’s a valuable tool especially on long and unfamiliar journeys.
When I tried it out it was to a destination I knew well and along a road I had always travelled. Imagine my surprise when it suggested another route. My first thoughts were to ignore it entirely – then as with all new toys well, you know you just go along with it! It got me to my destination with almost a mile and half to spare.
Needless to say that’s the road I have taken ever since.
At this time of year many young people will be leaving home for the first time. College and university will bring new and exciting experiences.
The economies of the day mean that retraining as far as jobs are concerned is often the case. We live in times of great change and we all need help along the way. It’s the same as far as faith is concerned. My sat nav says ‘Recalculate’ when I need to get back on the right road.
Perhaps we need to do just that, and along the way know the peace and love of Jesus who will be our light and guide and will bring us safely home. – Jesus, the way, the truth and the life.
