Don’t forget to be a nice guy this Halloween and Bonfire Night.

It’s that time of year again when Dyfed Powys Police remind people to ‘Be A Nice Guy’ this Halloween and bonfire night.

At this time of year both police and fire services see an increase in calls for services at this time of year and both organisations are asking people to be sensible and think of others.

“Once again this year, posters are available from local officers with messages that are appropriate to the different type of incidents we see in different areas of Wales,” said Inspector Eric Evans.

“There are posters which encourage visits from trick or treaters, and others which clearly say they are not welcome. And they also include safety tips for anyone wanting to dress up and go out and about calling at people’s houses.

“We know that instances of anti-social behaviour can increase at this time of year and some communities can suffer more than others. Also fireworks in the wrong hands can cause misery as they are used to damage property as well as threaten or injure people.

“Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be talking to young people in schools about how their behaviour can affect others, after all not everyone wants to join in the Halloween celebrations. They will also be reminding them to keep themselves safe if they go out trick or treating and doing joint talks with the Mid Wales and West Fire and Rescue Service regarding bonfire night safety.

“Whilst we do not have a big rise in calls at this time of year some of our residents do worry when trick or treaters knock the door. We do not want people’s enjoyment to get out of hand and cause people to feel threatened in their own home. If this is the case we encourage them to call us on 999 if it is an emergency or on 101.”
