RESPONSIBLE residents are being rewarded for helping to keep the county clean.

The council is holding a quarterly prize draw to win a £15 shopping voucher as part of its clean up Carmarthenshire campaign.

Environmental enforcement officers carry out regular patrols in the county and anyone caught dropping litter or failing to clean up after their dogs can be issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.

However, the officers will also be rewarding law-abiding citizens by offering them the chance to enter the prize draw.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “The council is determined to keep Carmarthenshire clean and as well as fining those people who leave their rubbish lying around or don’t pick up after their dogs we also want to reward people for their good behaviour.”

The winner of the first prize draw is Julian Lee, from Waun Road, Llanelli.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness and encourage the public to look after the environment in which they live.
