A total of 25 people were arrested following a policing operation conducted by roads policing officers and Special Constables on the weekend of 8-10th November across Carmarthenshire and Powys.
The aim of this latest operation was to tackle acquisitive crime and reduce the impact which travelling criminals have across the Dyfed Powys Police force area.
It also aimed to reassure the people of Dyfed Powys that officers are out there making sure our roads are safe for all to use.
“We had our own roads policing officers, together with colleagues from South Wales and Gwent roads policing units and special constables take part in this cross border operation,” said Inspector Mark Davies. “The focus was acquisitive crime and in particular we wanted to reduce the impact which travelling criminals have on all forces, particularly on the borders with Powys and Carmarthenshire.
“It was also important to reassure people living in the communities which lie on our borders that we will deny criminals use of all our roads, not just those in the main urban areas.
“We targeted the main arterial routes into each force and the results show the operation was a success.
“In Dyfed Powys we recorded a total of 40 crimes, which sounds a lot but is really the result of officers being proactive in keeping our roads safe. A total of 25 people were arrested, nine for drink driving, nine for possession of drugs, two for driving while disqualified, two for carrying offensive weapons, one for aggravated vehicle taking, one for theft and one for a public order offence.
“We also seized 11 vehicles because the drivers had no driving licence and / or insurance. Customs also dealt with two people for using red diesel.
“Operations of this kind are regularly carried out by Dyfed Powys Police and we will continue to carry them out to make sure that criminals are not allowed unchallenged use of our roads.”
