A MAN has been fined for failing to clean up after his dog at Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park.
He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 by the council’s environmental enforcement officers.
Failure to pay could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a fine of up to £1,000.
The offence occurred in the Festival Fields area and the council hopes this fine will serve as a warning to others.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “The Millennium Coastal Park is a popular leisure attraction and is used by families as well as cyclists and runners; not only is stepping in dog mess extremely unpleasant but there are also health implications.
“The council’s enforcement officers carry out regular patrols across the county and we will not hesitate to prosecute anyone caught dog fouling in a public place.”
Residents can also help to clean up Carmarthenshire by reporting any dog fouling incidents either by calling Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567 or by completing the online form at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk/dogfouling
Cllr Jones added: “Our officers cannot be everywhere at once and so we are asking the public to help us catch those responsible by reporting offenders as part of our ‘Dog Watch’ scheme. By working together we can create a cleaner, greener and safer Carmarthenshire for everyone.”
