Rogue trader incident in Llangennech leads to warning to householders to beware cold callers
Householders in the Llanelli area are being asked to be wary of cold callers at their homes following an incident in Llangennech recently.
Earlier this week a man knocked on the door of an address in Park Morlais, Llangennech.
Described as 5ft 8in with fair hair and slight build, he was well spoken but didnât have a local accent.
He was also wearing a dark suit with tie and weatherproof jacket.
âThis man has tried to persuade the home owner to get their driveway tarmacked,â said Sergeant Stuart Bell. âAnd even though the caller clearly told him that he was not interested, the man was persistent.
âOn this occasion the caller did eventually get rid of him, but naturally is concerned that others may fall for it as he doubts the man was genuine.
âIf anyone has concerns in relation to rogue traders, cold callers or any suspicious activity at their home should contact the police on 101.â
You can take steps to protect yourself by:
- Taking advice from family, friends or reputable traders to check if the work really needs doing
- If you do decide the work needs doing, always obtain several quotes and make sure the quote you accept is in writing
- Ask for details of previous satisfied customers and contact them. Go and see the work for yourself if you can
- Only use businesses that have an address and landline number, not just a mobile telephone number
- Look to use businesses that are registered as part of a trade organisation – this can give you more protection if things go wrong
