Environment Agency warns of localised flooding across Mid and West Wales

Environment Agency Wales is advising people to be vigilant for potential localised flooding across western parts of Wales as heavy rainfall is forecast tomorrow.

A band of persistent heavy rainfall is forecast to reach western counties from early Thursday morning.

It is likely to affect Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and parts of Gwynedd and continue through to Thursday evening.

Isolated showers are likely to follow overnight into Friday, but places will become mostly dry from Friday morning.

The Agency is warning that land is already saturated from last month’s heavy rainfall, and any further rain could quickly find its way into rivers and streams.

This could lead to flood alerts being issued on some rivers in the area.

There is also a risk that heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding of roads and low lying land from blocked drains, ditches and small streams.

Agency officers are currently working in the area to check that rivers and streams are clear of blockages and that flood defences are in good working order.

People are advised to take extra care while travelling as driving conditions could be hazardous.

Flood water is extremely dangerous and people should not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.

The Agency is advising people to keep up to date with the latest information in their area by listening to local weather and traffic reports, and viewing the latest information on the Met Office website.
