Local Carbon Cookery

RDP Sir Gâr’s Zero Carbon Future project is hosting a free cookery event as part of Pontyates Local Produce Market this weekend with hints and tips on eating more seasonably – and saving the pennies while you do.

Lisa Fearn of the Pumpkin Patch cookery school, Carmarthen, will be using local seasonal produce and showing how to reduce food waste by using leftovers from previous meals. There will also be a few festive treats for visitors to enjoy, too.

Zero Carbon Future, part of the RDP Sir Gâr Innovative Hubs project, is funded through the Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The project aims to deliver innovative solutions and projects which tackle climate change by reducing our carbon footprint.

Paul Thomas, Zero Carbon Future Officer, says:

“Reducing food waste and using local seasonal produce is something we can do to become more sustainable. This reduces the food miles, the amount of packaging used and the energy consumed in processing the food. Environmentally it is great… but, just as importantly, it’s fun, tasty and can cost less.”

Come along and see for yourself on Saturday 15th December to Pontyates Local Produce Market, 10am – 1pm.
