Chancellor George Osborne seems to love Big Fossil Fuel — after all, he certainly makes it nice for them to drill in the United Kingdom. His 5th December statement about tax incentives for fossil fuel companies was no exception.
Osborne’s statement contained details of the controversial gas generation strategy also known as “the dash for gas.” This involves generous tax incentives which will encourage companies to exploit the UK’s shale gas through fracking and drilling.
At a time when preserving the environment is incredibly important, it’s horrifying that Chancellor Osborne is essentially exposing the United Kingdom to companies who employ harmful drilling with open arms. This “dash for gas” would inevitably lead to an increase in carbon emissions as well as local environmental problems, which include small earthquakes and water pollution.
The UK should be expanding renewable energy, not resorting to even more destruction to find fossil fuels. Tell George Osborne to stop the “dash for gas” immediately — before it’s too late.
