Fire Service Launches “Be A Good Neighbour” Campaign

Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Risk Reduction Department has recently launched a new campaign entitled “Be A Good Neighbour”.

The campaign has been designed to encourage all residents in all communities in mid and west Wales to look out for their elderly, vulnerable and disabled neighbours and family members. The Service is urging everyone to be a good neighbour and ensure they do their bit to keep themselves, their family and community safe from fire.

It also aims to inform the public of the importance of having a properly fitted and working smoke alarm.

The initiative forms part of the service’s Community Risk Reduction plan to reduce accidental deaths and injuries from fire in the home.

Community Safety Manager for South Powys, Neil Evans said:

“The people we want to target are the most vulnerable people in our communities such as the elderly, disabled, people living alone etc. These are people who are most likely to have a fire in the home, receive an injury or even die in a fire. As a member of the community you could assist us in identifying these people.”

“All we ask is that you ask anyone who you think would benefit from a home fire safety check to contact us, or to seek their permission for you to pass on their contact details to us”.

The process will involve a home fire safety check, along with the supply and fitting of smoke alarms where required. This service is free to all. Please visit http://www.mawwfire.gov.uk/ for a free home fire safety check.​

Community Safety Support Manager, Beverley Davies, who is running the campaign said, “We want everyone to celebrate Christmas and the New Year safely, so please don’t be shy and get your friends, family & neighbours to request a FREE home fire safety check!”
