PUPILS at a Llanelli primary school are having fun doing their homework – thanks to a new project.
A homework club was piloted in partnership with Bigyn Primary School, St Pauls Family Centre, The Family Learning Signature and Communities First.
It provided a safe and supported environment where students could complete their homework.
The key to the success of the project was the fun element, which was testament to the staff at the St Pauls Family Centre.
All students who attended the club thoroughly enjoyed their experience.
Their responses included ‘I liked Homework Club because it’s fun. We finish our homework and we play with our friends. I will miss you and I wish we could do this every Tuesday,’ ‘The adults were kind and they helped us with our homework’, and ‘I liked Homework Club because the food was nice. I got my homework done and it was fun’.
Communities First are hoping to extend the homework club in the New Year with the support of The Family Learning Signature, Bigyn School and St Pauls Family Centre.
Community Development Worker Kelly Wood said: “The students were a testament to both the school and their parents and an absolute pleasure to work with.”
The project was developed in accordance with the changes that the Communities First Programme is currently undertaking; a key outcome being the achievement of primary school students.
