Richard Mattey – From the Royal Navy to the Retail Industry

Richard Mattey was in the Navy for 24 years and left in 2003. He went to work for his sister at ‘Berry Animal Feeds’, to gain retail experience. His assessor, Lynda Jenkins, signed him up to complete a level 2 NVQ Framework in Retail in 2005 which he achieved.

His sister later sold the business. Richard then worked at Morrison’s from July 2005 to June 2007.

He was keen to go back into the animal feed industry, and in June 2007 he found a vacancy with ‘Burns Pet Nutrition’; he applied for the vacancy of Warehouseman and got the job.

He then went on to assist in the setting up of the Moist Production Unit based in Burry Port as a supervisor, and then onto Managing the Burns Pet Shop (Burns@Pets Corner) in Carmarthen.

Lynda Jenkins was marketing in the Carmarthen area in August 2011 and found Richard again. He was eager to complete another qualification with Lynda, so he signed up to a Management Level 3 Framework, and is also working on his Communication and Application of Number level 2. He is scheduled to complete in February 2013.
