Top quality food on the menu

Local producers are the stars of the show at the National Botanic Garden of Wales January Food Fair.

They will be laying on an absolute feast for visitors on Saturday and Sunday January 26-27 with tempting treats to suit all tastes.

For meat-eaters, there is longhorn beef, wild boar, mutton, pork and squirrel; with beetroot bombs and parsnip fritters for the vegetarians. Fish fans can enjoy smoked salmon and mackerel pate; there’s local beer, cider, coffee, apple juice and wine; fresh bread, brownies and cakes; with plenty of cheese, chocolate and chilli chutney for good measure.

Head of marketing at the Garden, David Hardy said: “Our visitors are always keen to support local producers because they know their food and drink is high-quality. We also know that low food miles is good for food freshness and better for the environment; and that backing local businesses is a great way to support the local economy. Could there be a better way to spend your weekend?”

He added: “It is also a fantastic showcase for our local food heroes who offer such a vast array of top notch produce. I can’t wait!”

The Garden is open from 10am until 4.30pm, admission to the Garden and the Food Fair is £2 (under-16s, free).
