Plaid Cymru Statement on Council Tax Benefits

Plaid Cymru Llanelli have welcomed the news that the Welsh Government have finally listened and plugged the funding gap on Council Tax Benefits. After a long and sustained campaign since April last year by Plaid Cymru to protect the most vulnerable in our communities, there has eventually been a u-turn.

“This is good news for the 19,000 Carmarthenshire County Council household tenants as the housing benefit system will now remain the same and we have to congratulate the campaign by Plaid Cymru National Assembly members led by Rhodri Glyn Thomas to ensure that this should happen. It took the Labour Government in Cardiff such a long time to realise that we should follow the Scotland Government’s example and secure that these benefits remained as they were”.

Peter Hughes Griffiths

Plaid Cymru Group Leader on Carmarthenshire County Council
