Thought for the week (we 3rd February 2013)

What a week it’s been for Swansea City. A convincing win over Chelsea on Thursday night was clouded when Belgium international Eden Hazard supposedly kicked ball boy Charlie Morgan leaving young Charlie holding his ribs and looking very sorry for himself.

By Friday morning the ball boy’s Twitter account had attracted tens of thousands of new followers most suggesting that he had been time wasting. It seems that this incident may have placed the future of ball boys in the game in doubt and that’s a pity. In the end both apologised to each other and with Hazard facing a three match ban hopefully this will bring the whole incident to a close.

None of us can fully foresee the consequences of our actions especially when we’re under pressure. There may have been occasions when acting hastily we wish we had our time back again to make things right.

It’s the same when problems and concerns suddenly come our way and again with hindsight we know we would have acted differently. The Bible encourages us to ‘Trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all our ways to acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths’.

When we get things wrong God’s compassion and forgiveness are there for us as he leads us back into the right way.

In the words of a much loved football anthem ‘We never walk alone‘- and that’s the best assurance of all.
