Keith Davies has congratulated three of Llanelli’s community organisations on securing funding as part of a Community Facility and Activities Programme (CFAP). Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club, Ramp Skatepark Ltd, and the Antioch Centre together will receive over £731,000.

The Tennis and Squash Club will receive the largest individual award of £300,000 which will be used to improve the visitor experience including the renovation of the clubhouse, changing facilities and toilets. Ramp Skatepark Limited – a local group set up by local dads to create a safe skatepark for children in Llanelli will receive £271,708 to transform a disused warehouse at Sandy Bridge into a state of the art indoor/outdoor skate park. The Antioch Centre’s final phase of renovation will be completed with the awarding of £159,305.

The programme is a Welsh Labour Government capital grant scheme that promotes the regeneration of facilities. The three Llanelli based facilities are part of five schemes in Carmarthenshire that will benefit from over £1million.

Keith Davies AM said:

“I sincerely welcome the grants provided to regenerate, renovate and refurbish facilities in Llanelli. This shows the proactive engagement of a Welsh Labour Government and the value it places on communities.”

“Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club and Ramp Skatepark are now better placed to offer sporting facilities to encourage people of all ages to attend. This is especially important in light of having an active nation and maintaining high levels of participation in sports following this summer’s Olympics.”

“The Antioch Centre’s is currently operating a “Food Share” scheme, which will offer food, clothes and furniture banks. In today’s economic climate there are growing numbers of individuals and families that are faced with hardship, making it all the more important that facilities are available to support schemes like this.”

“Whether a small or large amount, CFAP funding has a beneficial impact upon Welsh communities and the day to day lives of local people. Many of the projects from earlier grants have now come to fruition and have made a huge difference to the communities in which they are based.”
