Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue appliances from Ammanford and Llanelli attended a road traffic collision on the A483 at Pont Abraham involving a 52 seater coach carrying approximately 25 college students and a car.
The female driver of the car was confirmed dead at the scene. 20 people on the coach received casualty care treatment from Ambulance personnel. The Fire Service made the scene safe using stab fast, high pressure air bags and level 2 line rescues. Police were also in attendance.
The A483 road was closed during the night and re-opened this morning. â
Fifteen people were injured in the accident when the coach taking students from Coleg Sir Gar’s Ammanford campus to Llanelli crashed near the Pont Abraham roundabout.
Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses and Ambulance staff said the bus casualties suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen and Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli for treatment.
The college said no students had suffered life-threatening injuries and the majority had suffered only minor injuries.
A College Sir Gar spokesperson has said:
“The college wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family of the car driver who was killed in the accident.”
