Llanelli Music Scene tracked down touring band Dodgem-X who are signed to Records of Mass Destruction, ahead of their gig with The Ecko, Seconds From Ruin and Fatal Desire at the Kazbar in Llanelli on 17th February 2013.

Jody from the band agreed to answer a set of ten Questions as follows:

1. Tell us about yourselves, (names and role in the band)

Jody Davies – vocals

Ross Morton – bass

Geraint Bodman – drums

Luke Davies – guitar

2. How did members get together?

Basically we all met at gigs and had been in different bands before that never really worked and decided to start something. Although we’ve been through 4 bass players before Ross joined.

3. What made you choose to play Llanelli?

Well we’ve played Llanelli a couple of times before at the Masons Arms and we’ve had some good crowds so it’s always a nice place to come back to.

4. Any other gigs booked?

Well the Kazbar Llanelli gig is part of a tour we’re supporting on with Seconds From Ruin but we’re also playing the BuffaloBar Cardiff on March 6th, The Fleur Dy Lys in Nuneaton on March 8th; Moochers in Stourbridge on March 9th; The Fringe Bristol on March 10th; Hobos Bridgend on March 16th; Elliots in Aberdare on March 16th and the Masons Arms back in Llanelli April 26th 2013

5. Are there any messages you are trying to get across in the music?

Well in the lyrics I write I try to draw on various experiences I’ve had in life and issues that bother me in hope that people can relate to ones about life and hopefully strike a nerve in the issues that bother me and other people.

6. Are there any funny stories behind why a song was written?

Well straightjacket was written about a time in my life where I actually thought I was going insane but I guess that isn’t that funny thinking about it!

7. What are the downsides / upsides of being in the band?

The upsides of being in a band are playing live – there is nothing better. Getting to play songs you’ve written in front of people and people actually liking them is also a plus. The downside is constantly being skint because you’re doing something you love haha.

8. Any advice for other musicians to get started or gig finding?

Using facebook and twitter and any other means of social networking possible to get yourself out there and then play anywhere and everywhere you can, pubs, clubs, carparks, backgardens, bedrooms anywhere. Just never give up on your dreams if you work at it hard enough it will happen

9. What is it about your band that makes you different to all the others?

Well for a start listen to us and you’ll realise there ain’t many bands out there doing what we’re doing plus we’ve lasted the test of time as we have been together in some shape or form for the last 10 years…punk rock will never die!

We’re not for everyone but come and see us live and we will change your mind.

10. What methods of advertisement besides from Llanellitown.com’s music scene do you find has helped you gig?

Social media has helped us a lot over the past 2 years, it’s how we’ve got most of our gigs, use it as much as you can.
