A MAN has been fined £75 for failing to clean up after his dog at Kidwelly Quay.
Council environmental enforcement officers issued the fixed penalty notice on Saturday morning in the car park.
The man made no attempt to clean up the mess and walked away.
Failure to pay could result in prosecution in court and a fine of up to £1,000.
Enforcement officers have stepped up patrols in the town following complaints of dog fouling from the town council, particularly in Parc Stephens.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Dog mess left anywhere can be a serious health risk. The majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up after their pets; however, there is a minority who just do not care. This will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be fined.”
Enforcement officers carry out patrols across the county seven days a week and at various times of the day.
Residents are being urged to help the council catch those responsible for dog fouling by reporting offenders as part of the ‘Dog Watch’ scheme.
Cllr Jones added: “If the message gets out that the residents can take direct action to report offences, dog owners are far more likely to behave responsibly. The information can also be used by officers to target specific areas at specific times of the day.”
