Ten Questions with Fatal Desire

Llanelli Music Scene tracked down Fatal Desire, ahead of their gig with The Ecko, Seconds from Ruin and Dodgem-X at the Kazbar in Llanelli on 17th February 2013. Liam from the band agreed to answer a set of ten Questions put to them as follows:

1. Tell us about yourselves, (Names and role in the band)?

Julian – Lead Guitar

Liam – Lead Vocals and Ex Bass player

Wyn – Drummer

And we have a new REAL Bass player called Mark . . . You can call him MJ.

2. How did the members get together?

It was Julian’s idea to get a band started, he asked Wyn to join and they jammed for around a month or two, then Julian asked Liam to join as singer and rhythm guitarist. We had trouble finding a bass player, so we decided the best way to get a bass play’ist was to start gigging.

So Liam played bass so we could get our name around, and hopefully find somebody to play bass, and eventually MJ saw us play, and decided he wanted a bit of that. Haha!

3. What made you choose to play Llanelli?

Well all of the boys, except Liam, have been in bands who have gigged around Llanelli in the past, so we spoke to a couple of people and they gave us the opportunity to play. So we did.

4. Any other gigs booked?

Of course . . . . We have a gig in the Masons on the 15th of March . . . . gonna be a good one, so make sure you all come, and tell your mates

5. Are there any messages you are trying to get across in the music?

Does that include the subliminal ones?

Mainly . . . . Live Fast, play hard and just enjoy!

6. Are there any funny stories behind why a song was written?

Well Julian has written all the songs so far . . . They are basically about past experiences and . . . well . . . . Girls and Cars.

7. What are the downsides/upsides of being in the band

Downsides – You have to spend time with a drummer

Upsides – Making music and hopefully making people realise that rock and roll isn’t dead.

8. Any advice for other musicians to get started or gig finding?

Play whatever music you wanna play, and try and get musicians in that don’t necessarily all like the same kind of music. Different influences and good to have in bands.

Finding gig . . . Well we were given our chances by Kris in the Masons and Alun from Cadno Music . . . If they gave us a chance then I’m sure they will give the rest of you a chance.

9. What is it about your band that makes you different to all the others?

Everything really . . . We play the music we wanna play, we’re not trying to get a No.1 single, we are just glad that there are still people out there that wanna hear some Hard Rock.

10. What methods of advertisement besides from Llanellitown.com’s music scene do you find has helped you gig?

To be honest it seems we are getting more people coming to see us by word of mouth . . . . and the same people are coming back to watch us again, and they are bringing friends. But obviously social networking sites are always handy.
