SIX people have been fined for dog fouling offences in the Llanelli and Burry Port area.
Two fixed penalty notices for £75 were issued on the Millennium Coastal Path in Burry Port and another along the path at Bynea.
A person was also fined at Pembrey Country Park and a ticket was issued at People’s Park on the playing fields behind Llanelli Leisure Centre.
A local resident was also fined in Heol Elli in Llanelli.
Failure to pay the fixed penalty notices could lead to prosecution in the magistrates court and a fine of up to £1,000.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Our enforcement officers are very proactive and carry out patrols across the county.
“Dog mess left anywhere can be a serious health risk and I am appalled that someone would allow their dog to foul on the playing fields at People’s Park and not clean it up so that football or rugby players could fall into it.
“The Millennium Coastal Path is used by cyclists and walkers, and Pembrey Country Park is popular with families for various leisure and recreation activities; no-one wants dog mess on their shoes or worse.
“We would like to remind dog owners to make sure they carry bags on them at all times and to dispose of their dog mess in a public litter bin.”
Residents are being asked to help the council catch offenders by reporting any offences.
Cllr Jones said: “If residents have any information in relation to dog fouling please contact us so that we can take action.”
