Nia Griffith MP has welcomed news that the footbridge over Pembrey Burry Port Station is to be saved.
“After my various meetings and discussions with Network Rail during which they presented a report showing the very serious state of disrepair of the bridge, I am absolutely delighted that I have now received some very good news from Mark Langman, Route Managing Director for Network Rail Wales.”
“He tells me that he is now in a position to authorise a full repair and repainting of the bridge, fully funded by Network Rail, and that the work will take place during this calendar year.”
“He has also said that the work is likely include the provision of discrete LED handrail lighting to improve the visibility of the bridge and safety for passengers, as well as effectively floodlighting this important structure as a feature in the local area.”
“There is no doubt in my mind that the strength of public feeling on this issue has been a significant factor in influencing the decision-makers, and I would like to thank all those who took the trouble to sign the petition and show their support for retaining this footbridge, which is both essential to the convenience of rail passengers and part of the historic heritage of Burry Port. “
