A MAN has been fined £75 for dumping black bags in the back lane of Capel Isaf Road in Llanelli.

The man admitted he did not live in the immediate area and had left them there instead of putting them out for collection by the council.

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 by council environmental enforcement officers. Failure to pay within the specified time could result in prosecution in court and a fine of up to £2,500.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We continually receive complaints from residents about the state of the rear lanes in Llanelli.

“People dump all kinds of rubbish there and as soon as it is cleared up it is not long before it is back in a mess again. It is not fair on those residents living there and it costs the council a lot of money that could be much better spent.

“We are appealing to residents with any information that could help catch those responsible to please get in touch. By working together we can improve the environment in Llanelli for both residents and visitors to the town.”

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and more serious offences can lead to fines of up to £50,000 and/or up to five years in prison.
