A WOMAN has been fined £75 for failing to clean up her dog’s mess at Pontyberem park.

Council environmental enforcement officers issued a fixed penalty notice to the woman, who lived locally.

The officers were on patrol in the park at the time of the offence and the woman just walked away.

The incident occurred on the grassed bank next to the children’s play area.

Failure to pay the fixed penalty could result in prosecution in court where the maximum fine that can be imposed for the offence is £1,000.

The council is working hard to tackle the problem of dog fouling and enforcement officers carry out regular patrols across the county.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Dog mess left anywhere can be a serious health risk and we will not hesitate to fine those who fail to clean up after their pets.

“Children play at Pontyberem park and if they fall into dog mess not only is it extremely unpleasant but there are health implications to consider as well.

“This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Residents are being urged to help the council catch offenders by reporting dog fouling offences in their area.

Cllr Jones added: “Our officers cannot be everywhere at once and so we are asking the public to help us catch those responsible as part of our ‘Dog Watch’ scheme.”
