Ruth Woodbridge from Stafford will travelling all the way to the area to take part in the Llanelli Olympic Distance Triathlon in Sept in memory of her mother Ann.

Ann Woodbridge, who was Llanelli born & bred, passed away last year from cancer and Ruth will be racing in the Triathlon to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ruth told us:

“I’m fundraising for Macmillan in memory of my mum Ann Woodbridge, who passed away last year from mesothelioma. That’s a rare form of cancer normally caused by exposure to asbestos.

“My mother was a mum of four, also a grandmother, lived in Felinfoel and was well known.”

“She was a member of the ramblers and had an active social life including line dancing, pub quizzes, and nights out with her many friends.”

“She was always eager to learn and even after she retired she continued to learn the piano and also attended computer classes at the college. She also was a regular helping out on a local charity stall.”

“My mum was supported by Macmillan during a really tough time, and I want to fundraise for them to help support their great work. Cancer affects so many people, and Macmillan help to make things a little bit easier.”

The big challenge to fundraise for Ruth is on September the 1st in Llanelli – the Llanelli Olympic (also called Standard) Distance Triathlon.

This will consist of a 1.5km swim in the North Dock, followed by a 40km bike ride, and then a 10km run along the Millenium Coastal Path.

“This is a bit of a scary challenge for me as I now live in the Midlands and have never even swum in the sea before.” Said Ruth
