SCHOOLCHILDREN in the Gwendraeth Valley are getting to grips with the weather.
Cefneithin School has had a weather station installed in a bid to increase its pupil’s knowledge on climate and energy change.
The sustainable tool measures temperature, patterns, wind speed and direction, air pressure and rainfall. Data collected from the station can also determine what the forecast is likely to be in the immediate days ahead. A pilot scheme, delivered by Ynni Da, has been rolled out to six schools across the county with funding from Carmarthenshire Environment Partnership.
It is being supported by Carmarthenshire Community Challenge.
Executive board member for sustainability, Cllr Jim Jones said: “The weather stations are a vital learning resource and will help educate the children on the importance of climate change and sustainability as well as the impact they have on the environment.
“It’s also about learning outside the classroom and developing responsible attitudes both at home and in the wider community.”
