Llanelli Music Scene’s Band of the Month Launch Night at the Kilkenny Cat

Saturday 30th March saw the Launch night of Llanelli Music Scene’s ‘Band of the Month’ with a mammoth line up of six of the best local live bands/performers that Llanelli has to offer. The free event was held in the packed out Kilkenny Cat and was a complete success.

I am very pleased to have be part of organising the Llanelli Music Scene Band of the Month Launch night alongside Music Scene representative and ASD guitarist Keith Evans. Keith also enlisted the help of Emma Buckley for photography and Daryl Hurley to help out on video camera for the evening.

The night started at 6pm with the fantastic and very talented vocalist and guitarist Mr Dai Sharkey who opened up the event and also entertained the crowds with his eclectic blend of nu folk music at intervals between bands during the night. Check out Dai on his Facebook page or his website www.daisharkey.com

Each and every musician who played at the event performed a fantastic set and there were many personal highlights for me including seeing Mr Dai Sharkey provide some amazing sound effects on his guitar using his microphone stand!!!

Other highlights included

– ( ASD) A Sudden Disturbance opening up with the Robbie Williams song ‘Let Me Entertain You’ before launching into their own original set providing an innovative blend of rock with haunting yet pretty guitar effects topped with dark vocals. Check out their Facebook page to hear Forgotten Memories Feat. Jaden Luifius!

-Betws RFC Battle of the Band 2013 finalists Zookeepers performing their own extremely catchy indie rock set including the original song ‘Winter’ easily demonstrating why they made it to the final of the battle of the bands, watch this band soar! Winter is available to listen to in acoustic form on the Zookeepers Face book page.

-The honour of seeing new local band Cinema of Ray playing their first ever ‘electric gig as a band at the Llanelli Music Scene Band of the month Launch night. The band comprises of local experienced talented musicians from previous bands including The Ecko; The Mams; Hepburn & Sleepy Panda Club and this combination of great talent was evident in their performance. The band is currently putting together their Facebook page.

3rd place band at the 2012 Llanelli Battle of the bands and Betws RFC Battle of the Band 2013 finalists Stand up and shout performing a perfectly honed classic rock set including their also extremely catchy song ‘My Way’, which is also available to listen to on their Facebook page. You’ll be singing along in no time!!

– The pleasure of having the 2012 Llanelli Battle of the bands winners Beautiful strangers headlining the event with a mesmerizingly rocking set that kept the crowd entertained proving that they were one hundred per cent the most apt band to headline the launch of the ‘Band of the Month’ Event. Check out Beautiful Strangers Facebook page to hear ‘Kick me when I’m down’!!

Each and every act who performed evidenced that you do not need to travel hundreds of miles to find talent, the talent is on your doorstep and Llanelli Music Scene plan to continue to put on a band of the month event at a local venue each month in order to support and promote local talent and to showcase local musicians to the masses.

I would just like to thank all the people who contributed to making the Music Scene Launch night a success especially to all the acts who performed, and to the Kilkenny Cat.

If there are any bands or any local venues who are interested in working with us on events, please contact Llanelli Music Scene via the Facebook page.
