WELSH CHILDREN’S CHOIR GO THE EXTRA 7,000 MILES FOR BBC CHILDREN IN NEED

A leading Welsh children’s choir is planning to go “TRANSCONTINENTAL” and make a “REALLY BIG NOISE” – all in aid of BBC Children in Need.

Wales’ leading Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers are planning a diverse and exciting programme of activities in aid of BBC Children in Need – from delivering Pudsey Bears across 27 countries and 7,000 miles to pulling together a giant Pudsey Choir of 300 voices and musicians for “The Really Big Sing”.

“TRANCONTINENTAL TEDDY TOUR CHALLENGE”

The young Hywel choristers are coordinating the following challenge: To deliver by car 27 Teddy Bears to 27 hospices and orphanages across 27 countries spanning 7,000 miles in less than 300 hours!

In addition to raising funds for BBC Children in Need, the choir will also be taking to the orphanages and hospices ‘Boxes of Love’ filled with much needed resources as well as delivering ‘Friendship Posters’ designed by local Welsh primary schools.

Hundreds of local primary school children are also being involved in this fund raising activity for BBC Children in Need with each school developing a “Friendship Poster” and donating a giant Pudsey Bear to each orphanage as well as building a valuable awareness of BBC Children in Need.

The Teddy Tour branded 4×4 Landrover will visit each school in July to collect the Friendship Poster and giant Pudsey Bear ready for their Teddy Tour in August and photographs for the media will be taken at each school.

Fun facts about the Teddy Tour Challenge

• 28 tanks of diesel will be required
• The distance is the same as driving from England to Argentina!
• The distance is the same as driving from London to New York and back!
• 21 currencies will be needed

Countries to be visited include: France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Luxembourg…

The two choir officials who have been selected to undertake this marathon challenge are Jeremy Hywel Williams, the choir’s Director of Development and Helen Williams, the choir’s Director of Recruitment and Scholarships.

“This an exciting project to do and will be a true test of endurance”, explains Jeremy. “However, raising both valuable funds and awareness for BBC Children in Need and also bringing some love and attention to desperate orphanages across other countries will be well worth the effort.”

The husband and wife driving team will be setting off on the 16th August which coincidentally is their wedding anniversary and Helen’s birthday!
