Ireland’s greyhound racing industry has given birth to savage and despicable abuses. Thousands of the canines are abandoned every year, discovered in neglected, starved, and often mutilated states by law enforcement officials.

There have been multiple accounts of trainers cutting the ears off of their greyhounds to minimize the chances of law enforcement identifying the animals. The Welfare Act of 2011 states that these poor dogs deserve to be given tiny chips, markers that allow the courts to enact justice in a lightless alley.
Approximately 27,000 greyhounds are bred annually for the industry, but no one seems to be able to keep track of them.
