Dyfed Powys Police fully supports the National Stalking Awareness Day on 18th April 2013.
The theme for this year is ‘Know the Law, Use the Law’.
Investigations relating to stalking can be linked to some of the most serious crimes that the police deal with including murder, sexual offences and domestic abuse. The impact of harassment on victims, families and communities can be devastating.
Temporary Detective Inspector Neil Jenkins said:
“Anyone who has ever been stalked and/or suffered harassment knows the devastating effect it has upon feelings of safety, self confidence, self esteem etc.
“Stalking is against the Law in the UK. The police can take action if you are being stalked- there does not have to be any direct threats of violence to have happened before they are able to do anything.
“It is important for everyone to be aware of how they can ensure their own personal safety, and this issue may be of particular concern to you if you are being harassed or stalked.
“Nobody has the right to harass you or stalk you and the Police and courts can take action against anyone who is doing such a thing.”
