Change of bin collection days

APPROXIMATELY 9,000 households in the Llanelli and Gwendraeth Valley areas are to be affected by a change in bin collection days.

The change will involve residents living in parts of Llanelli as well as the Burry Port, Kidwelly, Trimsaran, Carway, Pontyates, Tumble, Cross Hands, Five Roads and Hendy areas.

Not all households in these areas will change; those that are affected will receive a letter from the council with details of their new collection day.

The changes will come into effect on the week beginning April 22.

It is the result of a review of waste collection rounds which is being carried out across Carmarthenshire.

There are approximately 175 collection rounds in the county with more than 35 vehicles working out of three depots based at Cillefwr in Carmarthen, Trostre in Llanelli and Glanaman.

Many of the rounds have been inherited from former councils and have existed for a number of years.

The review will organise the routes more efficiently and also involves equalising the tonnages collected by each crew on each day of the week.

Unfortunately, the re-organisation of the routes will mean a number of households will experience a change in collection days.

Executive Board Member for Street Scene Cllr Colin Evans said: “The change in collection days for some residents is unavoidable and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Letters are being sent out to those residents affected so I would urge them to please take notice.”

The changes will not affect whether it is a blue or black bag week. If you are unsure you can view the calendar online at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk/recycling or call Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
