A MAN has been fined by the council for dropping litter after being reported by a member of the public.

He was seen driving along the A484 near Trostre in Llanelli throwing rubbish out of the car window.

The witness made a note of the car registration number and passed the information on to the environmental enforcement team, together with a written statement.

Enforcement officers were able to identify the offender and he has been issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75.

Failure to pay could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a fine of up to £2,500.

This is the fourth fixed penalty notice issued in the last two months thanks to members of the public reporting offences.

The council is actively encouraging residents to help catch offenders. Offences can be reported via the council’s website, by email or by telephone.

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “Throwing litter from a vehicle is a criminal offence and we are urging people to report offenders so that we can take action.

“It is important that residents give us as much information as possible such as the date and time, the location of the offence and the vehicle registration number.

“We are also encouraging residents to report dog fouling offences. Again please give us much information as possible including a description of the dog and person in charge of the dog.

“Information can be given in confidence if people do not want to provide official statements. This can then be used by officers to target specific areas and hopefully catch those responsible.

“By working together we can clean up Carmarthenshire for good.”

You can report offences by completing the online form at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk; alternatively email Direct@Carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
