Police officers across Carmarthenshire recently carried out a county wide operation targeting illegal scrap dealers.
Neighbourhood policing teams, roads policing officers were joined by staff from the Environment Agency and several offences were discovered including:
- The seizure of possible telecoms cable which is being investigated
- Fixed penalties – 3
- Vehicle seizures under Section165 Road Traffic Act for driving with no insurance – 2
- Summons for an offence under the Road Traffic Act – 1
- Reported for no transfer notes – 1
- Reported for not being registered with local authority – 3
With regards the last item ‘Reported for not being registered with local authority , this is the first use of this legislation in Dyfed Powys. All scrap metal dealers (whether they are businesses or itinerant collectors) need to be registered with the local authority.
